BlackBerry Storm3 To Have Name Change By Launch?

by Bryan Bellino - on Feb 21st 2011 - No Comments

RIM caught a lot of heat when the first BlackBerry Storm launched, for its lackluster performance to extremely laggy OS they had an uphill battle from the start.  The Storm2 fixed some of the flaws from that initial launch but did the outcry cause the Storm line to be to little to late?

We all know the Storm3 is in full development swing, and one of our informants just hit us up with something interesting.  It appears that RIM might be changing the name of their next 100 percent touchscreen device on Verizon, and not call it a Storm3.  The brand took to many negative hits and RIM might be thinking a name change is in order for the majority of users who dont follow blogs and the Interwebs.  We say… Good idea if it pans out to be true.  If they keep the Storm name chances are it will die a quick death if its not absolutely stellar, something RIM does not seem to be able to do lately.

Thanks A!

Storm3 To Be LTE Data Ready at Launch

by - on Nov 22nd 2010 - 1 Comment

The BlackBerry Storm3, while not even close to being announced officially yet, is shaping up to be a power device if all the rumored specs are to become true.  We have yet another exclusive for you, as a reliable informant who has given us information in the past is now telling us another reason for the cancellation of the Storm2 refresh 9570.  It looks like RIM wanted to focus on getting an LTE ready device out there sooner rather than later.  Our source is telling us he is all but 100 percent sure the Storm3 (or whatever name it will officially be called) will in fact have LTE on board for data usage, while remaining on Verizon’s CDMA network for voice.  When you factor in all the other “rumored” specs, this device is shaping up to be a big contender sometime next year. RIM To Move Ahead With QNX OS7 For Storm3?

by - on Nov 10th 2010 - 6 Comments

Thanks to our trusty informant we received some news this morning that might make some of you happy.  While we trust our source, this is still a rumor as always until RIM themselves say’s otherwise.  Remember the whole Storm 9570 fiasco that occurred between the months of August and October?  Was it a Storm3?  Was it a Storm2 but upgraded for OS6?  Well, we learned some interesting info about what happened and why.  Hit the jump for all the details. Exclusive: Did RIM and Verizon Put The Storm3 On Hold For LTE?

by - on Sep 13th 2010 - 13 Comments

As was Tweeted over the weekend, we received some Storm3 info but held off until we can better verify some of the information gathered.  First off, as is already known, there is no Storm3 this fall, as it appears that the Storm2 “refresh” will be RIM and Verizon’s push to get users onto OS6.  The refresh gives the Storm2 double the RAM to 512MB to better accommodate the new OS.

Now onto the good stuff.  We have learned that the Storm3 was delayed just a bit this past late Spring, as Verizon may want to launch the device with LTE for data.  We have reports from separate sources that give us two possible launch time frames.  One being May of 2011 to coincide with RIM’s WES conference.  The other date being next November in 2011.  Why the separate dates?  We are hearing it all depends on how well the LTE rollout goes, and how much coverage is around by May.  If LTE gets delayed at all, look for a November launch.  As always, when we get more we will post it up!

Exclusive: Verizon BlackBerry OS6 Plans For Q4 of 2010

by - on Aug 30th 2010 - 15 Comments

Dont you just love Monday mornings when a tip comes in and your able to share that tip with your users?  Thanks to one of our VZ informants we received a nice tip yesterday, actually, and waited until today to verify some of the information.

We know there are lots of you out there that use a BlackBerry, maybe because its company provided, but this should make all of you happy.  Verizon is looking to push out OS6 for not 1, but 3 devices, by the end of the year.  The Storm2 refresh (which we still dont have a final model number designation yet), the Bold 9650, and the Curve 9330.  From what we were told, the Storm2 refresh will drop in November, pretty much around the Black Friday time frame, while we are hearing the Curve 9330 will hit the market in December.  Both the Storm2 and Curve 8530 will hit end of life around October.

Whats nice is we are told the Bold 9650 SHOULD see an OS6 upgrade somewhere between the Storm2 refresh and the release of the Curve 9330.

Hopefully this all pans out for you BlackBerry folks!  We look forward to seeing what VZ has in store this holiday for everyone.

Exclusive: BlackBerry OS6 Not Coming To The 9700 As Well?

by - on Jul 25th 2010 - 18 Comments

Remember last week when we told you about Verizon halting tests of OS6 for the Storm2?  I have some “potential” bad news for 9700 owners as well.  Our informant, who has been pretty spot on when it comes to most things, has just informed me of some news that will upset a few of you.  It seems as though the latest builds of BlackBerry 6 (which is up to .120 for the 9800 as of this posting) are really not capable of running on devices with 256MB of RAM, something which we have known for a little while now but wanted to hold off on posting until a little more info was available.  Now, its possible builds are still being made and optimized to see what can be done, but it does not look good.  Going forward I’m going to say that RIM will require 512MB of RAM and ROM at a minimum in order to run their new OS.

When we can get some more concrete info we will promptly bring it to you.

Did Verizon Stop Testing BlackBerry OS6 Builds On The Storm2 9550?

by - on Jul 21st 2010 - 18 Comments

Not in surprisingly shocking fashion, we just received word today from a reliable informant that Verizon, which did have some BlackBerry 6 builds in testing, has since stopped and will probably wait until either a Storm2 reboot and/or a Storm3 is revealed.  Reasoning?  You can bet the 256MB of RAM is one of them, as well as other factors.  As said its not a shocker, but its sad for Storm2 users that were hoping to get some OS6 goodness.  Lets hope this bit of info is wrong for those of you sticking it out with your Storm2′s.

UPDATE: For those that have emailed asking, we agree.  We hope this is not true.  Lets hope the testing stopped for other reasons, such as waiting on a specific build.  For now, this is the info that we have though.

BlackBerry OS 5 Leaks Have Dried Up. Is OS6 Ready To Bring RIM Back To The Game?

by - on Jul 9th 2010 - 6 Comments

For those of you out there on the Interweb’s that still rock a BlackBerry, things have been sorta “dry” when it comes to trying out new OS builds.  From the looks of it, even the latest official release’s from carriers sport only under the hood bug fixes (or create new ones at times).  Why is this?  Is RIM really getting ready for OS6?  What about business users that dont want or need anything to flashy?  Read on for some more thoughts… (more…)

Trillian for Blackberry Mini Review

by - on Jun 14th 2010 - 12 Comments

I am calling this a mini review because Trillian is still in beta so there are bugs to work out and this is not even the final version of the application, a lot of things can change from feedback and what not, so I am just going to say my experiences and couple issues I had with it. After using Trillian for about a week now, I can say that this is definitely an application to watch out for.
