Breaking: Verizon Will Not Carry The Samsung Galaxy S II Android Phone

by Bryan Bellino - on Aug 25th 2011 - No Comments

In what comes as a little bit of a shocker, the WSJ is now reporting that Verizon will not be carrying the Samsung Galaxy S II in its portfolio of phones.  Why?  Some sites may lead you to believe it has to do with Verizon “possibly” getting the next Nexus phone, with little fact to back it up.  Our thoughts? We think Verizon has gotten a bit greedy when it comes to devices on its network.  With this announcement, and the fact that the Bionic will already be out of date only a few months after release thanks to quad-core phones coming in early 2012, at least Verizon can say they have the fastest 4G network… until you hit that cap.  oops.

Breaking: Verizon To Go To Tiered Data on July 7?

by Bryan Bellino - on Jun 17th 2011 - 3 Comments

This could be it folks.  We just received a ton of emails from the site contact form, saying its now being said around the Interweb’s that Verizon tiered data could very well start on July 7th.  What does this mean?  If you currently have an unlimited data plan on Verizon, and plan on staying with them for the long haul, do NOT change plans.  You will be grandfathered in.

If you do not currently have a Verizon smartphone on unlimited data, and plan on porting over to VZ, you need to do this ASAP, assuming this news is in fact true.  Say goodbye to unlimited 4G data, folks.

What else can you do?  Seeing as TMobile gives you 2GB than throttles you and ATT does 2GB plus overages, that leaves Sprint as the only remaining provider with truly unlimited 4G in the US.  It had to go eventually.  As to what data plans we shall see is anyones guess right now.

Will update you as we learn more.

Exclusive: Verizon/Motorola Testing Android OS 2.4 for Droid Lineup?

by - on Feb 14th 2011 - No Comments

Monday’s are usually not to exciting, but the news we were able to gather over the weekend and bring to you should spice it up a bit.  Two of our informants have let us in on some interesting information.  Remember when we first talked about Motorola and Verizon pushing out OS 2.3 to their Droid lineup, including the Droid X, Droid 2, and Droid 2 Global?  We are now hearing that OS 2.4 is ALSO in testing for Motorola and “possibly” could be pushed instead of OS 2.3.

Both OS 2.3 and 2.4 are Gingerbread, just as OS 2.0 and 2.1 were both codename Eclair.  The differences between 2.3 and 2.4 are minimal if at all visually but driver/software/firmware/hardware wise 2.4 will incorporate full NFS compatibility as well as dual-core support from the OS itself.  A big deal when you have a dual-core phone, say something like the DroidX2 and Droid 3?  Yep…

Thanks P and S!

Why The HTC Thunderbolt “May” Do Simultaneous Voice And Data

by - on Feb 1st 2011 - 3 Comments

The one feature that Verizon Wireless users crave more than anything else we think is the ability to use data and voice at the same time.  Many of you might think that the CDMA standards prohibit this, but thats very far from the truth.  The truth is, most CDMA carriers choose not to enable this feature as it can cause strain on the network.  Not all carriers think the same, but Verizon has always been known to make sure the network “works” and works well before anything else.  Would you like to know why the HTC Thunderbolt will then be able to sometimes do Voice and Data at the same time?  Hit the break for a little lesson on SVDO and VoRA. What If All Cars Like This One Got 260 MPG?

by - on Jan 31st 2011 - No Comments

While it might not be the most luxurious looking car, the VZ Formula XL1 will get 260 miles per gallon using a 47 horsepower, 800cc two-cylinder turbo-diesel engine with a 27 hp electric motor.  The idea right now is to make 100 of these for sale (yes it is not a concept and will be for sale) but we would guess at a price point high enough that the average person will not be able to buy one.  Heres to hoping it catches on and they can integrate that kind of distance per gallon on other models. Verizon In Final Testing For OS 6.0.0.431 On The Bold 9650

by - on Jan 25th 2011 - 4 Comments

Remember that OS for the Bold 9650 we were able to get our hands on a few days ago?  The very same one that had some people complaining it was a hybrid?  Silly folks that run blogs but don’t know a thing about technology.  Well we are hearing from a very trusty informant that the same OS is in final testing for Verizon users.  What does this mean?  It DOES NOT mean that you are guaranteed to see this release, but there is a very good chance it could happen.  While nothing is bug free, this seems to be the best build yet and we would assume Verizon will push it out.  Thoughts?

Thanks L!

Windows Phone 7 Looks To Launch Soon On Verizon

by - on Jan 21st 2011 - No Comments

Its only a matter of time, but it looks like Verizon is getting ready to give their users a taste of Microsoft’s reboot mobile OS, Windows Phone 7.  One of our informants just let us know that Verizon is not only heavily testing out the devices, with a few manufacturers planned for launch, but they are getting close.  When might that launch be?  We dont have a specific date, but we can say that our informant is hearing the May to June timeframe as of right now.  So, Verizon has Droids (check), iPhone (check), soon to be WP7 (Check).  Looks like they are ready for 2011 after-all.

Thanks informant!

by - on Jan 13th 2011 - No Comments

As of only a few months ago, if you wanted to use a WiFi only iPad with Verizon Wireless, you could of either bought the iPad seperate and subscribed to a MiFi device from VZ, or just get the bundle they offer.  We now have confirmation from Francis Shammo, chief financial officer of Verizon Communications Inc., that Verizon will soon get an iPad with embedded chip.  Whats not known yet is if this will be a 3G only or 3G/4G model, but the timing is very soon.
